Vintage Silver Golf Medal: 1946 Artisan Qualifier Award

This silver golf medal will absolutely fit the bill! Metal: Stamped Silver. Also engraved on the back of the medal is the following: "F.A.G.S.  A. MATHEWS 1946 ARTISAN QUALIFIER".  Most commonly, the engraving “FAGS” refers to the “Friday Afternoon Golf Society,” a name used by many clubs during that period. In the 1940s, “artisan” golfers were typically working-class players who belonged to private or municipal courses, often paying reduced dues and contributing volunteer labor to help maintain the grounds. Qualification for artisan competitions usually involved local stroke-play rounds followed by sectional tournaments, which determined advancement to the championship stages.
